Large Hadron Collider (LHC) – Candidates for the heaviest elementary particle known to science.

"If the observations are confirmed, it would be a first for Europe; so far, the top quark particle has only been generated by one lab in the US. Dr Arnaud Lucotte said the discovery could assist physicists in the hunt for the elusive Higgs boson, or "God particle".

In The ‘Gutter’ – Three pet hates (Dad’s/myself) – "small talk, ignorance and war" – Afghanistan and Iraq – "The United States has condemned as "irresponsible" the leak of 90,000 military records, saying publication could threaten national security." And,_2004-2010 (connection problems?) 86% British Public voted that they don’t want this stupid war. "The biggest wartime leak ever of 91,000 secret US military documents confirms everything the anti-war movement has said for years. The war in Afghanistan is pointless and unwinnable and the warmongers have lied to us continually. It must end now. We have to raise the level of campaigning so that the government, parliament and the media are forced to respond to the overwhelming view of the British public, that the time to bring all the troops home from Afghanistan is now" "If anyone could lead us out of this madness, it is Professor Richard Dawkins" ref, Notes of Dad’s – we can now say, "Richard Dawkins and Julian Assange: Wikileaks founder is a hacker fighting for freedom of information" "His mother believed that a formal education would instil an unhealthy respect for authority on her son and he moved 37 times before he was aged 14".

The Stars – "Chinese engineers are considering a new super-powerful engine for the next generation of space rockets, say officials" "The matter we can see makes up just 17% of matter in the Universe; the remaining 83% is "dark", meaning it does not reflect or emit detectable light"

The Gutter Or The Stars

"A judge in Malawi has imposed a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison with hard labour on a gay couple convicted of gross indecency and unnatural acts" "The case has ignited debate over homosexuality in Malawi, a conservative country where religious leaders equate same-sex liaisons with Satanism."

"Pakistanis woke up on Thursday to find access to popular websites Facebook and YouTube blocked after a government crackdown on websites seen to be hosting un-Islamic content. The BBC’s Aleem Maqbool reports on the reaction from Peshawar."
"What triggered the action was a Facebook group inviting people to draw, and post, cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad".

of irrationality and superstition?

The Clarity And Wit of Aldous Huxley, Bertrand Russell and HG Wells!A18BF3FCC5E126A2!825.entry ‘Brave New World’s’ a much shrewder guess at the future than George Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty Four’ – Aldous Huxley ‘The Doors of Perception’ may prove greatly more prophetic than ‘Brave New World’.

(1963) New Forest, Hampshire, England. A ‘witch’ was compelled to leave her house because her neighbours genuinely believed in her powers. All of them believed, as implicitly as they believed in their Faith, that the Powers of Darkness were still physically active in the world. And, in 2010 – Church Schools and Faith Schools, and in Law (compulsory daily worship: a draconian/discriminatory – opt out clause) in the UK. We still teach children that this may still be so. We make a big fuss over Race Hate Crime, but then encourage the ridiculousness (befog or muddle – children or vulnerable) of the above. Worse ‘Gang Culture’ for schools, and school ethos’s – "The BHA warns of risks with new religious academy schools. Coalition Government plans will imperil teachers and children’s rights without additional protections in law, especially if new Academies are sponsored by religious groups, some business groups; the British Humanist Association has warned today." Ref, tribalism in, and ghettoising, UK Schools. "Creationism is to be debated alongside the theory of evolution in science and religious education lessons in secondary schools across"  Hampshire. Hampshire County Council And, “a recipe for medieval idiocy” that “will only serve to confuse young minds” Children’s Rights – Religious Education (RE) Dorset For You. SALED, NASACRE, SACRE. RE Search – Agreed Syllabus. "Children, I’ll argue, have a human right not to have their minds crippled by exposure to other people’s bad ideas – no matter who these other people are. Parents, correspondingly, have no god-given licence to enculturate their children in whatever ways they personally choose: no right to limit the horizons of their children’s knowledge, to bring them up in an atmosphere of dogma and superstition, or to insist they follow the straight and narrow paths of their own faith. In short, children have a right not to have their minds addled by nonsense. And we as a society have a duty to protect them from it. So we should no more allow parents to teach their children to believe, for example, in the literal truth of the Bible, or that the planets rule their lives, than we should allow parents to knock their children’s teeth out or lock them in a dungeon." ‘What Shall We Tell The Children?’ ‘Amnesty Lecture’ Oxford – Nicholas Humphrey. And!A18BF3FCC5E126A2!1249.entry

"Dispatches goes undercover in some African churches in the UK, where evangelical pastors perpetuate a strong belief in witchcraft. "

‘Science Current Affairs Classes and Clubs’ for our children could replace superstitious nonsense’s in school Science Classes – Teaching of evolution – The new government has announced that it will ensure "all schools have greater freedom over the curriculum" and has also announced that it will not be implementing the new primary curriculum proposed by the previous government which, among other things, included evolution for the first time.

Take Action on evolution

We are concerned that this will mean that there will be less evolution taught in schools and a greater risk that some schools, particularly "faith schools" may try to introduce creationism into the science classroom. Take action now!

Personally, I find it very hard to be ecstatic! Maybe, not young enough to be optimistic!

How exciting is some of this?! For our children!? Why we must teach – "How to handle freedom and not conformity".

Over zealous reliance on ‘conformity’ is why we have not really advanced very far socially (COMPARED TO OUR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY); in countless experiments, conformity (cultural tradition and herder religions {schools to blame} the major stumbling block). Conformity is a most prominent trait in our cousins the apes; who remain today in a situation without much improvement (AS – OURSELVES). Ref, Desmond Morris ‘The Naked Ape’ stunning TV series and Barbara Ward ‘The Home of Man’ an advisor to Prime Ministers and Presidents, which did not do much good! "If anyone can lead us out of this madness, it is Professor Richard Dawkins" ref, Notes of Dad’s – we can now say, "Richard Dawkins and Julian Assange: Wikileaks founder is a hacker fighting for freedom of information" "His mother believed that a formal education would instil an unhealthy respect for authority on her son and he moved 37 times before he was aged 14".

Killing, privation, and starvation, of the last 100 years or so, has been like, what has been never seen before: 100’s millions of deaths, mostly, women and children, and the massive use of rape that is principally used for ethnic cleansing purposes.

Carl Sagan ‘The Cosmos Series’ – as relevant for children today, as it was then! And, Professor Richard Dawkins on Charles Darwin – series. And his many stunning and wonderful  books (most schools ‘silly-ethoses’ according to Dawkins/with some ignorant parents –  will {eventually!!!} have to catch up)!
Safety of Conformity – ‘The Fear Of Freedom’ Erich Fromm.

The worst things that have been forced on my children and at school, so far, mostly, in the past:  teachers retired/replaced:  Lords Prayer repetition until it repeats/rings in the head for a lot of the day (question asked, but not a lead and to several children) – told that they must, even if they don’t feel like it, say prayers and sing hymns, so on…(of course, most children naturally/normally like to participate; to ram it down their throats stupidly is quite another matter, and unforgivable in 2010) –  that they can’t be a member of the particular Class that they are in at their School, unless they believe in God and the saying out loud of a repetitive and compulsory, ridiculous/silly  – Grace or Prayer (this needs some variation of faiths/beliefs; taking in belief and those of no faith/belief). Uniform – useless expensive blazer vs hi-tech snuggly warm fleece. For Schools – "Generally, the state of mind of a believer in Revelation is the awful arrogance of saying, "I know, and those who do not agree with my belief are wrong". In no other field is such arrogance so widespread, in no other field do people feel so utterly certain of their knowledge. It is to me quite disgusting that anybody should feel so superior, so selected, and chosen, against all the many who differ in their beliefs or unbelief’s.
This would be bad enough, but so many believers do their best to propagate their faith at the very least to their children, but often to others, and historically there are of course, plenty of examples of doing this by force and a ruthless brutality. The fact that stares one in the face is that is that people of the greatest sincerity and at all levels of intelligence differ, and have always differed, in their religious beliefs. Since at most, one faith can be true, it follows that human beings are extremely liable to believe firmly and honestly, in something untrue in the field of revealed religion. One would of expected this obvious fact to lead to some humility, to some thought that however deep ones faith one may conceivably be mistaken. Nothing is further from the believer, any believer, than this elementary humility. All in his power, which nowadays in a developed country tends to be confined to his children, must have his faith rammed down their throats. In many cases, children are indeed indoctrinated with the disgraceful thought that they belong to the one group with superior knowledge, who alone have a private wire to the office of the Almighty, all others being less fortunate than they themselves." Sir Herman Bondi, (past) Master of Churchill College Cambridge. And, "Civilization, we may say, has advanced only at the cost of a struggle between science and superstition, working on the intelligence of the participants, a struggle of whose progress the legal status of torture and the social status of astrology, might serve as indicators.
Advanced societies, therefore, are so stratified as to keep the primitive mind (N.B. equivalent: Reflex and ‘the rational mind’ – Bronowski) in a subordinate position. In this way individual responsibility and the rules of evidence, allow with fluctuating success, the development of law and the organisation of knowledge and all that follows from these practices." ‘The Little Universe of Man’ Professor C.D.Darlington.

About luckyme0

My First family, second marriage, bringing up my 18-year-old twins, boy, and girl. I am a third generation Humanist, who has some old handwritten information and notes; collected over many years. Someone may find the articles interesting, or helpful. They could bring back a little ‘reality’, after being ‘shocked’ and ‘brainwashed’, by some malicious group, or institution (REBT Therapy). People should know better, than to do this, to our very young, and the ‘obviously’ vulnerable! Go to easily accessible, non-superstitious knowledge that is not charlatanism! The blog has given me an incentive to order my thoughts, learn, and read up again, after a few non-thinking years of (very silly) imagination and passion. Why not, get your own key to a ‘door’, customise it to suit you, and it can be, all of your very own! Don’t believe, or be led by someone else’s; inherited, stupid, and a very likely (past, and not of today’s) ‘totally preposterous reality’s’. Only some interest in the ‘really big questions’, keeps life above the level of a farce, and very little else! KEEP THINKING! Some of the posts may need some correcting. Favorite quote: “The world belongs to those who, at least to some degree, have figured it out.” Carl Sagan, ‘The Demon Haunted World’, ‘Contact’, and other famous books DVD ‘Cosmos’. The warning of another and horrendous, “Age of Superstition”. “Isn’t there something deeply absurd in the presumption that children ought to inherit beliefs from their parents. It can be deeply damaging, even lethally divisive. A ‘them’, with an ‘against us’, mentality” – Professor Richard Dawkins. “The will to believe is stronger than mere reason in the vast majority of people” – Dr J.Brown, Army Psychologist of the 1960′s. Humans will believe in almost anything, in fact, they seek it! Why? “98% of us, trained to be just good consumers, let’s train our children to be the 2% who have their very own creativity and discernment”; quote by a famous surreal artist. “The lack of reason brings forth monsters”. “Global interconnectedness is lethal against mass religion, nationalism, racism, and other destructive memeplexes. Let us connect everybody they hate it in restrictive regimes”; from the ‘meme learning group’, Richard Brodie’s book, ‘Virus Of The Mind’ (Richard Brodie a designer for ‘Microsoft Word’). Following on, J.Bronowski, and ‘The Ascent Of Man’ TV series, and a book with the last DVD in this series, ‘The Long Childhood’ being especially revealing. ‘Prehistory’ and the ‘Making of the Human Mind’ by Colin Renfrew, with P.Wilson’s, ‘The Domestication of the Human Species’, and Nigel Spivey’s, TV series and book, ‘How Art Made The World’, offers some further explanations.
