In his new book, "50 People Who Buggered Up Britain", the Daily Mail’s peerless sketchwriter Quentin Letts offers his own roll call of the 50 prime suspects he blames for wrecking our country. One of Letts’ culprits is Alun Michael – a figure with whom followers of hunting’s history will be all too familiar. This extract was published in the Daily Mail on 8th October 2008:
"Fox-hunting, as traditionally practised, became an illegal activity during Tony Blair’s second term. Hundreds of hours of parliamentary effort were devoted to its extermination. MPs bent over backwards to criminalise an outdoor sport pursued by some of the most upstanding members of the community. The ban was ridiculous and impractical and it tarnished Parliament’s own standing.
"The Government minister who pushed through the hunting ban? A dismal little doormat called Alun Michael.
"To look at, he is not a striking proposition, a careworn creature with the hunched shoulders and lank hair of a natural loser. Alun Michael is an authentic middler, a worker bee, putty in the hands of more confident colleagues.
"On hunting, he got his way. Ill-informed, emotive arguments defeated common sense. But he still looked flea-bitten as he led the canter towards the ban. He still looked miserable, mangy, weak."
No ‘fresh’ eggs for us and the children for two weeks! The fox has put the hens off laying and if the fox hadn’t been caught, just in time, all the hens would of been killed for nothing! The last time I tried to shoot a fox I missed – I might of wounded it – it probably had an agonizing death – this one the terriers got (at a local farm) and was instantly dispatched. It was after the hens and more… Keep on ‘Hunting’ – the fox is! See, photos. RSPCA’s Advice to Cat Owners. Keep cats in at night, because they may be killed by the fox: the cat will fight and kill wildlife, also there is a chance that the cat might be run over (depending where you live). This is like depriving you of light or forcing you to live some ‘half-life’. RSPCA – so much going for them (rather like the Church), but so much crass stupidity! Cruelty abounds with banning things – everyone agrees with sensible rules http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1078655/How-hunt-shot-Labours-fox-Although-hunting-banned-years-ago-sport-MORE-popular-ever.html And, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/leading_article/article4965117.ece

Social anthropologist, evolutionist, and humorist, Quentin Letts in his book ’50 People Who Buggered Up Britain’, sort of, says, "The ‘Human Being’ is little different from the vole or the dormouse. Hundreds of homes a day in Britain are visited by the spectre of (sudden) death – women, men, and children: stunned and weeping: returning to a long forgotten God and applying their hopes to an imagined Heaven for their dead, and in amongst, and analogous to: an adults view point of the frightened five year old’s, frightened of the dark at bedtime, who see a glimmer of Gods light under the bedroom door! The social network of rural parishes (full of old rich urban anti-hunting intruders – mostly, atheists – due to Darwin and Dawkins) whose fun and weakened happiness has been totally spoilt by not going to church and the good clergy’s lives have been complicated by secular thinking of most right-minded people". Scientific (social) Anthropologist and the Evolutionary Biologist Professor Richard Dawkins FRS in his book ‘The Ancestor’s Tale’ ‘A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Life’, sort of, says, about Quentin Letts’s voles and dormouse’s (the villagers, uneducated – rurals, and the religious mourners) "Here we are, 140 million years ago at the base of the Cretaceous with the Concester 14 (Rendezvous 14) Marsupials, our 80-million-greats-grandparent, who lived in Gondwana".
