Stephen Hawking and Patrick Moore, “When did time start?, the greatest question of all”.

Illusion: “A system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive and long-lasting moods and motivations in men by formulating concepts of a general order of existence and clothing these concepts with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic” Clifford Geertz (‘suspends your disbelief in a religion-like way’)

A few scientists follow their religious beliefs rather than the scientific method. Biological evolution is just one of the most important of many broad issues on which substantially all working scientists agree. There may be a few persons with scientific credentials who disagree, but they do not contribute to the progress that is the hallmark of science. It is not simply that these dissenters are wrong, because wrong answers can sometimes stimulate controversy that helps lead to correct answers.”
Rather, as the physicist Wolfgang Pauli liked to say, “They are not even wrong. That is, their arguments are useless and even detrimental to the pursuit of further knowledge.” What do children and young adults require: Quality. “Laws of nature are human inventions, like ghosts. Laws of logic, of mathematics are also human inventions, like ghosts. The whole blessed thing is a human invention, including the idea that isn’t a human invention. The world has no existence whatsoever outside the human imagination…” ‘Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance’ Robert M. Pirsig. And, “Days have become phantasmal and incoherent, except in terms of Quality.” “My personal feeling is that this is how any further improvement in the world (politics, and that required from our politicians and unelected leaders, quangordial religionists – NASACRE, SACRA and educationalists, local councils…,: the teachers and the schools, laggards and laggardly institutions; who are so very far behind all of us – masses) will be done: by individuals making Quality decisions and that’s all. God,…”

Global Gullibility ‘For Dawkins, religious gullibility is not only an illustration of, but may be a precursor to, a more global form of gullibility. As he said, if you can believe “something as daft as the transubstantiation [then] you can believe anything”, and (witness the story of Doubting Thomas) these people are trained to see that as a virtue” (p. 141). In other words, training children to accept nonsensical religious notions may predispose them to accept all kinds of other nonsense with a similar blind trust.’  Global Gullibility Try it,!A18BF3FCC5E126A2!4614.entry + videos “The Pope has urged Catholic bishops in England and Wales to fight the UK’s Equality Bill with “missionary zeal”‘… Ref, 2010 – parents and others, and ‘religion in schools’, ‘Do they really want their children to turn out be globally gullible, and sometimes, they may find (private, public schools) have learnt to be quite ridiculously intolerant?’ What could be more sensible in 2010, “Culture Change” – ‘The Triumph of Triviality’ “Culture change strategists all agree about the urgent need to promote “global consciousness,” or “cosmic consciousness.”
“Children, I’ll argue, have a human right not to have their minds crippled by exposure to other people’s bad ideas – no matter who these other people are. Parents, correspondingly, have no god-given licence to enculturate their children in whatever ways they personally choose: no right to limit the horizons of their children’s knowledge, to bring them up in an atmosphere of dogma and superstition, or to insist they follow the straight and narrow paths of their own faith. In short, children have a right not to have their minds addled by nonsense. And we as a society have a duty to protect them from it. So we should no more allow parents to teach their children to believe, for example, in the literal truth of the Bible, or that the planets rule their lives, than we should allow parents to knock their children’s teeth out or lock them in a dungeon.” ‘What Shall We Tell The Children?’ ‘Amnesty Lecture’ Oxford – Nicholas Humphrey.
And, Colin Renfrew ‘Prehistory’ –  My note: a ‘matrix in global understanding’ and the individual for ‘responsible’ global consciousness, abridged, see, ‘books’. “‘Realities’ of the modern world are institutional facts – products of concepts and social relationships worked out a millennia ago in prehistoric times. Cities of Sumer or of Mesoamerica and the (compelling) belief systems of Karnac or of Teotihuacan. We should recall them, at a time when globalisation is complete, and there is uniformity in the contemporary world” (‘psychic unity’ of humankind). Culture Change ‘The Triumph of Triviality’ “Culture change strategists all agree about the urgent need to promote “global consciousness,” or “cosmic consciousness.” What we have (without science – ignorance, the ‘aura of factuality’) “A system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive and long-lasting moods and motivations in men by formulating concepts of a general order of existence and clothing these concepts with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic” Clifford Geertz. Our very own, ‘home-grown’ Barmy Army ‘Strange separation of what man is from what man does may have some clues as to what the hell has gone wrong in the twentieth century’ Robert M.Pirsig ‘Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance’.
We know that the ‘Group Mind’, or the ‘Power’ (of the State), especially, when we may be, inadvertently, proved to be by experimentation, (is) very much beyond our personal control and we are drawn into some ‘Sub Group’ and then away, or far from, our normal secular everyday life, and our own quite simple philosophy and psychology – psychic family unity, and cultural-history: potentially very hazardous, even downright, and extremely dangerous – RE, ‘spirituality’ justifying itself in other areas, such as Global Warming Science and ‘natural weather occurrences’, PSHE, sports, and so on…(Milgram. RE, is a ‘torturous school subject’, for both children and parents). Using frightening and terrible power that is gained over all our children in a closed environment, to possibly: negate, or ‘befog and muddle’ (‘mucking about with our children’s minds’) the affects or realities in/of the nationally accepted ‘Modern Enlightenment’, within our societies’ continuing and very strong steady march, away from all the irrational past tendencies of ‘damaging irrational mass hysteria’ and ‘superstition’, which is giving us all; a stronger and much more sensible, less silly, ref, Dawkins: anthropological – anomic, modern (adult) and ‘popular secular’ – ‘all inclusive – race, culture and sexuality – orientation’ that is core to a kinder type of modern society that we all now require. It is beyond any form/type of justification, or, lies in the: self-justification of an elite, and hierarchical power hungry authority (Church / unelected / out of touch / central or local – quangordial government), and in that of the ‘local’, or otherwise: pervasive ‘Sub-groups’ – SACRE and NASACRE. Ref,!A18BF3FCC5E126A2!4297.entry The ‘stick and carrot’ of Medievalism. Ref, ‘Power of the Guardians’ Amartya Sen – Secret Sessions “Never in the UK has so much power been in the hands of so few”. Not just about the cost of any entry to some possible heaven, but at a great cost to your child’s earthly learning time (possibly, real learning time), but more importantly for the ‘power and glory’ that is available to only the ‘selected few’, those ‘who meet mostly in secret sessions’. Ref, Amartya Sen ‘Power of the Guardians’ – ‘never has so much power been in the hands of so few’. Please tell them to go to hell, also, and possibly, to grow up like the rest of us, have now, had to – and very much since: the ghastly bigotry and hatred existing in the dark dank era of 1944! Shall we go back and see what it was really, really, like. SALED – ‘salad days’ and those unfathomable ‘bigoted’ aims. What really are their ‘aims’? Their ‘position’ in our schools should be given up forthwith!

“Watering-down of protection for gay people ‘shames’ parliament…” BHA, E-MAIL.

The BHA has condemned votes on the House of Lords which removed the requirement for discrimination against gay people by religious organisations to be “proportionate”. The government’s definition of the roles that would be affected was also voted down, after strong lobbying by religious organisations including Church of England bishops within the House of Lords. BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson commented, ‘Everyone else is required to treat gay people without discrimination. What the Christian churches fought for and won were special exemptions from that law so that they can treat lesbian and gay people unkindly, unfairly, and discriminate against them (A shameful example, of their so called, ‘loving God’ to all our children and vulnerable). The House of Lords has shamed itself by conspiring in this sort of immorality. We regret it and we hope that those fair-minded parliamentarians and those Christians who have campaigned against this exemption are given a fairer hearing in the future stages of the Bill and that this disgraceful injustice is reversed.’ Read more about our work on the Equality Bill.

The not so dodgy dossier

The BHA has been campaigning against faith schools for a long time, and yet those in favour of dividing children by religion continue to trot out the same ropey arguments for the status quo. What’s worse, all too often they are they are successful in persuading politicians that the whole question of religion in schools is too hot to handle.

(My note, more to the point, ‘can you trust the religionists, who may be at varying stages, or degrees, of Revelation; with the education of your child?’ As this is a personal blog, and with the experience of being a father to two 10 year old’s, the answer is a definite no – a no, no, in all respects.)

That’s why we’ve been thrilled this week to see a digest of independent evidence that shows the consequences of faith schools for society. The document has been produced by Accord — the coalition for inclusive schools co-founded by the BHA — and brings together research by academics, think-tanks and the government.

So, when someone next suggests to you that the current system is popular with parents, you can tell them that 57% of people think that religious admissions undermine community cohesion, and even more want balanced RE which includes non-religious perspectives. And when they ask how a faith school could possibly get a wealthier intake than a neighbouring community schools, you will have the statistics showing that church school intakes definitely are disproportionately middle class. With some schools requiring regular attendance for several years to get a place, it’s little wonder that that some schools are off limits to all but the most religious or determined parents.

Beware – Everyone should feel a ‘little uneasy’ with their own religion or ideology – it is a very healthy to doubt, and if lucky enough to be allowed to: you certainly should! Everything changed after September 11th, except for the religiosity in most our schools, which they doggedly hang on to, as if in a dream, and in some of our institutions (House of Lords), it is, as if, September 11th never happened, with the denial of (home-grown) reasons that their promotion of religiosity (religious power – unelected Bishops of the House of Lords) might of been at some fault! The real horrors passed them by, as if they were in some senile (some of them are, and so very silly, with their outdated, embarrassing – antics and language) dream, unfortunately the ghastly horrors were very real to the people who jumped off the Towers to avoid the heat, so on…

“Six Conditions for Thought Reform”

Keep the person unaware of what is going on and how she or he is being changed a step at a time. Potential new members are led, step by step, through a behavioural-change program without being aware of the final agenda or full content of the group.

The goal may be to make them deployable agents for the leadership, to get them to buy more courses, or get them to make a deeper commitment, depending on the leader’s aim and desires.

Control the person’s social and/or physical environment; especially control the person’s time. Through various methods, newer members are kept busy and led to think about the group and its content during as much of their waking time as possible.

Systematically create a sense of powerlessness in the person. This is accomplished by getting members away from the normal social support group for a period of time and into an environment where the majority of people are already group members.

The members serve as models of the attitudes and behaviours of the group and speak an in-group language. Manipulate a system of rewards, punishments and experiences in such a way as to inhibit behaviour that reflects the person’s former social identity.

Manipulation of experiences can be accomplished through various methods of trance induction, including leaders using such techniques as paced speaking patterns, guided imagery, chanting, long prayer sessions or lectures, and lengthy meditation sessions.

Manipulate a system of rewards, punishments, and experiences in order to promote learning the group’s ideology or belief system and group-approved behaviours. Good behaviour, demonstrating an understanding and acceptance of the group’s beliefs, and compliance are rewarded while questioning, expressing doubts or criticizing are met with disapproval, redress and possible rejection. If one expresses a question, he or she is made to feel that there is something inherently wrong with them to be questioning.

Put forth a closed system of logic and an authoritarian structure that permits no feedback and refuses to be modified except by leadership approval or executive order. The group has a top-down, pyramid structure.  The leaders must have verbal ways of never losing. “When God’s word… is neglected, and when God’s law is ridiculed, despised, laughed at, the result can only be destruction and injustice.” Pope Benedict XV1.

And, Margaret Singer Ph.D. “Six Conditions for Thought Reform”. “A new hard hitting advertising campaign starts today to help reduce the number of teenage girls who suffer domestic violence at the hands of their boyfriends. It comes after NSPCC researchers found an alarming number of youngsters believe physical and emotional abuse is normal within relationships.”

“But what of those who contemplate the realities themselves as they are for ever in the same unchanging state? (regarded as static in Plato’s time) Shall we not say that they have, not mere belief, but knowledge”?
“That too follows”.
“And, further, that their affections goes out to the objects of knowledge, whereas the others set their affections on the objects of belief; for it was they, you remember, who had a passion for the spectacle of beautiful colours and sounds, but would not hear of beauty being a real thing”.
“I remember”.
“So we may fairly call them lovers of belief rather than that of wisdom – not philosophical, in fact, but philodoxical. Will they be seriously annoyed by that description”?
“Not if they will listen to my advice. No one ought to take offence at the truth”.

*”The Being of Platonic philosophy – except that Plato seems to have made the enormous, the grotesque mistake of separating Being from becoming, and identifying it with the mathematical abstraction of the Idea” (‘poor fellow’). Huxley. (Becoming human is a process, not some event.) And, Tolstoy – “As soon as man reaches the highest degree of development (in Tolstoy’s case it was just 32 years of age), he sees that all is bunkum and deceit; and that the truth, which he values above all, is terrible: that when you look at it well and clearly you awake with horror”.

Then, when they are fifty, those who have come safely through and proved the best at all points in action and in study must be brought at last to the goal. They must lift up the eye of the soul to gaze on that which sheds light on all things; and when they have seen the Good itself, take it as a pattern for the right ordering of the state of the individual, themselves included.
Why fifty years of age?
You must have seen how youngsters, when they get their first taste of it, treat argument as a form of sport solely for the purpose of contradiction. When someone has proved them wrong, they copy his methods to confute others, delighting like puppies in tugging and tearing at anyone who comes near them. And so, after a long course of proving others wrong and being proved wrong themselves, they rush to the conclusion that all they once believed is false; and the result is that in the eyes of the world they discredit, not themselves only, but the whole business of philosophy. An older man will not share this craze for making sport of contradiction.
He will prefer to take for his model the conversation of one who is bent on seeking truth, and his own reasonableness will bring credit on the pursuit.
Something that we all learn, “In time, it is true, experience teaches him that magic formulas and ceremonial gestures do not give him what he wants. But until experience has taught him – and he takes a surprisingly long time to learn – man’s behaviour is in many respects far sillier than that of the animal”. Huxley. “Eventually, my rejection of authority spilled into self self-indulgence and self-destructiveness, and by the time I enrolled in College, I’d begun to see how any challenge to convention harbored within it the possibility of its own excesses and its own orthodoxy”. Barack Obama ‘The Audacity of Hope’.
The Modern Matrix?
‘The Making of the Human Mind’ by Colin Renfrew and the 5 sequential stages of human development, “a very persuasive one”. The first three stages are ‘unilineal’ (where the idea of memes or memetics of Dawkins is found to be a bit loose in its terminology) as in the evolution to Homo sapiens from Homo erectus. Based on ‘Origins of the Modern Mind’ Merlin Donald 1991 and refined by Colin Renfrew and later accepted by Donald.
1) Episodic Stage – Primate cognition 2) Mimetic Stage – 4 million to 400,000years (peaking with Homo erectus) 3) Mythic Stage – first use of complex language – 500,000 years to the present (peaking with Homo sapiens) 4) Material Symbolic Stage. Leslie White recognised this as defining the ‘importance in human culture’  (icons of religious faith, amongst the many other symbols) 5) Theoretic Stage. Donald calls this ‘institutionalised paradigmatic thought’ (writing – ‘massive external memory storage’). A better and more detailed explanation can be found in Colin Renfrew’s  fascinating book ‘Prehistory’. Writing this to try and clarify it in my own mind, as it must be (and in my great ignorance), the ground breaking formation of a basis (and) origin for all leaning! – stunning!

Notes Of Dads 1. A Pyramid Of The Degrees Or Levels Or States Of Consciousness Towards Knowledge – Anomy – Stratified Society – Target Grey – Explorers.

This notebook is intended to be a selection of various notes I have made over the years – say the last 10 years, in five reporters notebooks, and in my brown loose-leaf notebook.

Idea for a book called ‘Target Grey’, or ‘The Gutter and The Stars’, or ‘Other Works’.

My idea of how society is constructed :

Target Grey refers to that small number of people lying between – ‘Reactors’ and ‘Explorers’.

Vis add : ‘The Kingdom or the Darkness’ Monod. See, ‘The Primitive Mind’.

“Civilization, we may say, has advanced only at the cost of a struggle between science and superstition, working on the intelligence of the participants, a struggle of whose progress the legal status of torture and the social status of astrology, might serve as indicators.

Advanced societies, therefore are so stratified as to keep the primitive mind in a subordinate position. In this way individual responsibility and the rules of evidence, allow with fluctuating success the development of law and the organisation of knowledge and all that follows from these practises”. ‘The Little Universe of Man’ Professor C.D.Darlington.

Target Grey

Stratified Society

……………And Anomy……………..

1) ‘Target Grey’ is a fair ‘target’. They require a lead into knowledge

2) Those Explorers and above Target Grey. Do not need a lead into knowledge.

3) Those below (Target Grey) will not wish to know or care what you are writing about anyway! They require no lead and do not want knowledge!

4) I know from experience in ‘Education’ that those in the ‘Grey’ area are ‘Frustrated Secret Explorers‘.

About luckyme0

My First family, second marriage, bringing up my 18-year-old twins, boy, and girl. I am a third generation Humanist, who has some old handwritten information and notes; collected over many years. Someone may find the articles interesting, or helpful. They could bring back a little ‘reality’, after being ‘shocked’ and ‘brainwashed’, by some malicious group, or institution (REBT Therapy). People should know better, than to do this, to our very young, and the ‘obviously’ vulnerable! Go to easily accessible, non-superstitious knowledge that is not charlatanism! The blog has given me an incentive to order my thoughts, learn, and read up again, after a few non-thinking years of (very silly) imagination and passion. Why not, get your own key to a ‘door’, customise it to suit you, and it can be, all of your very own! Don’t believe, or be led by someone else’s; inherited, stupid, and a very likely (past, and not of today’s) ‘totally preposterous reality’s’. Only some interest in the ‘really big questions’, keeps life above the level of a farce, and very little else! KEEP THINKING! Some of the posts may need some correcting. Interests: REBT Counselling, Atheism, Secularism, Humanism, Psychology, Reading, Popular Science, School Ethos, Philosophy, History, Family, Parenting, Psychology, Horse Riding, Sailing, Rescue Boat Driver, Skiing (Teppichswinger), TV Documentaries, Motorbike Cross Country Riding, Volunteer Sports Stewarding, Writing, Primitive Man, Pre-history, Social Anthropology, British Humanist Association, BHA, Meaning of Life, The Big Questions, Where am I, What am I, Why am I, Hippie Love, Knowledge, Education, Globalisation. Favorite quote: “The world belongs to those who, at least to some degree, have figured it out.” Carl Sagan, ‘The Demon Haunted World’, ‘Contact’, and other famous books DVD ‘Cosmos’. The warning of another and horrendous, “Age of Superstition”. “Isn’t there something deeply absurd in the presumption that children ought to inherit beliefs from their parents. It can be deeply damaging, even lethally divisive. A ‘them’, with an ‘against us’, mentality” – Professor Richard Dawkins. “The will to believe is stronger than mere reason in the vast majority of people” – Dr J.Brown, Army Psychologist of the 1960′s. Humans will believe in almost anything, in fact, they seek it! Why? “98% of us, trained to be just good consumers, let’s train our children to be the 2% who have their very own creativity and discernment”; quote by a famous surreal artist. “The lack of reason brings forth monsters”. “Global interconnectedness is lethal against mass religion, nationalism, racism, and other destructive memeplexes. Let us connect everybody they hate it in restrictive regimes”; from the ‘meme learning group’, Richard Brodie’s book, ‘Virus Of The Mind’ (Richard Brodie a designer for ‘Microsoft Word’). Following on, J.Bronowski, and ‘The Ascent Of Man’ TV series, and a book with the last DVD in this series, ‘The Long Childhood’ being especially revealing. ‘Prehistory’ and the ‘Making of the Human Mind’ by Colin Renfrew, with P.Wilson’s, ‘The Domestication of the Human Species’, and Nigel Spivey’s, TV series and book, ‘How Art Made The World’, offers some further explanations.
