World War 3. ‘The World War Against Terror and Hatred’.

What Is A Nation? What is Nationality?

Truth in 1931 and in 2006?

If our story of the World has demonstrated anything, it has demonstrated the mingling of races, and peoples, the instability of human divisions, the swirling variety of human groups, and human ideas of association.

A nation, it has been said, “Is an accumulation of human beings who think they are one people”.

Nevertheless, we are told that Ireland is a nation, and Protestant Ulster does not share that idea, and Italy, did not think it was one people, until long after its unity was accomplished.

Again, are the English a nation, or have they merged into a, “British Nationality”?

Scotsmen do not seem to believe very much in this British Nationality. It cannot be a community of race, or a language that constitutes a nation, it cannot be, a common religion for England has scores, or a common literature. Or, “Why is Britain separated from the United States or the Argentine Republic from Spain”?

We may suggest that a nation, is in effect, any assembly, mixture, or confusion of people, which is either: afflicted by, or wishes to be, afflicted by a Foreign Office of its own, in order that it should behave collectively, as if its needs, desires, and vanities; were beyond comparison more important than the general welfare of humanity.

Throughout the Nineteenth Century, and particularly throughout its latter half, there has been a great working up of this, “Nationalism in the World”. All men are by nature, Partisans and Patriots, but the natural tribalism of men in the nineteenth century was unnaturally exaggerated, it was fretted over, and over stimulated, and inflamed, and forced, into the Nationalist Mould.

Nationalism, was taught in Schools, emphasized by Newspapers, preached, mocked, and sung into men.

This has become a, monstrous cant, which has darkened all human affairs. Men were brought to feel that they were as improper without a Nationality, as without their own clothes, in a crowded assembly.

Oriental peoples, who had never heard of nationality before, took to it, as they took to the cigarettes, and bowler hats, of the West. India, a galaxy of contrasted races, religions, and cultures, Dravidian, Mongolian, and Aryan, became a Nation.

Caricature, and political cartoons, played a large part in this elevation of these newer and bigger tribal Gods, for such, indeed, the modern nations are. The essential idea of Nineteenth Century Nationalism was the legitimate claim of every nation to complete sovereignty, the claim of every nation to manage all its affairs within its own territory, regardless, of any other nation.

The flaw in this idea, is that, the affairs of, and interests of, every modern community extend to the uttermost parts of the Earth.

A World of Independent Sovereign Nations, means, therefore, a world of perpetual injuries, a World of States constantly preparing for, or waging war.

P.N. Latest research shows that there is only a very small difference in any Human DNA due to race. The real problems of divisions leading to war lies within our individual mindsets. What lies in mind, only comes from what we have been told and the effect of immediate personal, and past, personal, or group usurpation’s in our local and the fairly immediate social history. We are gullible (mostly – when young) and belong to a species, with an, easily guided emotional responses. The Media and our Educational Systems have a vast responsibility, at present lacking, due to, too many selfish aims. i.e., the promotion of a particular religion, an ideology or a misguided portrayal of virtuousness.

About luckyme0

My First family, second marriage, bringing up my 18-year-old twins, boy, and girl. I am a third generation Humanist, who has some old handwritten information and notes; collected over many years. Someone may find the articles interesting, or helpful. They could bring back a little ‘reality’, after being ‘shocked’ and ‘brainwashed’, by some malicious group, or institution (REBT Therapy). People should know better, than to do this, to our very young, and the ‘obviously’ vulnerable! Go to easily accessible, non-superstitious knowledge that is not charlatanism! The blog has given me an incentive to order my thoughts, learn, and read up again, after a few non-thinking years of (very silly) imagination and passion. Why not, get your own key to a ‘door’, customise it to suit you, and it can be, all of your very own! Don’t believe, or be led by someone else’s; inherited, stupid, and a very likely (past, and not of today’s) ‘totally preposterous reality’s’. Only some interest in the ‘really big questions’, keeps life above the level of a farce, and very little else! KEEP THINKING! Some of the posts may need some correcting. Interests: REBT Counselling, Atheism, Secularism, Humanism, Psychology, Reading, Popular Science, School Ethos, Philosophy, History, Family, Parenting, Psychology, Horse Riding, Sailing, Rescue Boat Driver, Skiing (Teppichswinger), TV Documentaries, Motorbike Cross Country Riding, Volunteer Sports Stewarding, Writing, Primitive Man, Pre-history, Social Anthropology, British Humanist Association, BHA, Meaning of Life, The Big Questions, Where am I, What am I, Why am I, Hippie Love, Knowledge, Education, Globalisation. Favorite quote: “The world belongs to those who, at least to some degree, have figured it out.” Carl Sagan, ‘The Demon Haunted World’, ‘Contact’, and other famous books DVD ‘Cosmos’. The warning of another and horrendous, “Age of Superstition”. “Isn’t there something deeply absurd in the presumption that children ought to inherit beliefs from their parents. It can be deeply damaging, even lethally divisive. A ‘them’, with an ‘against us’, mentality” – Professor Richard Dawkins. “The will to believe is stronger than mere reason in the vast majority of people” – Dr J.Brown, Army Psychologist of the 1960′s. Humans will believe in almost anything, in fact, they seek it! Why? “98% of us, trained to be just good consumers, let’s train our children to be the 2% who have their very own creativity and discernment”; quote by a famous surreal artist. “The lack of reason brings forth monsters”. “Global interconnectedness is lethal against mass religion, nationalism, racism, and other destructive memeplexes. Let us connect everybody they hate it in restrictive regimes”; from the ‘meme learning group’, Richard Brodie’s book, ‘Virus Of The Mind’ (Richard Brodie a designer for ‘Microsoft Word’). Following on, J.Bronowski, and ‘The Ascent Of Man’ TV series, and a book with the last DVD in this series, ‘The Long Childhood’ being especially revealing. ‘Prehistory’ and the ‘Making of the Human Mind’ by Colin Renfrew, with P.Wilson’s, ‘The Domestication of the Human Species’, and Nigel Spivey’s, TV series and book, ‘How Art Made The World’, offers some further explanations.
